Bobcats Back on Top of National Rankings
2/13/2023 2:02:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
HAMDEN, Conn. — After a weekend of back-to-back shutouts, the Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team is back on top of both national polls. The DCU/USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine rankings both slot the Bobcats at No. 1 entering the penultimate week of the regular season.
The Bobcats received 26 of an available 50 first-place votes in the DCU/USCHO rankings and stand 24 points above Minnesota for the top spot after the Golden Gophers split with Big Ten rivals Wisconsin over the weekend. Minnesota holds 16 first-place marks, while No. 3 Denver received seven and No. 5 Boston University received the final nod. No. 4 Michigan rounds out the Top 5.
Quinnipiac received 21 of the 34 first-place votes to be had in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine rankings, besting the Golden Gophers again by 21 points for top spot. Denver, slotted at No. 3, received the other top tally, while Michigan and Boston University round out the Top 5 once again.
Two other ECAC foes remain in the rankings, as Harvard jumped up to No. 9 in the USCHO poll and remained at No. 10 in the USA Today rankings, while Cornell held steady at No. 11 in both polls.
Head coach Rand Pecknold's club rounds out its home regular season slate on Friday and Saturday night, as the Bobcats host Yale and Brown. Puck drop for both contests is slated for 7 p.m., and can be seen live on ESPN+. Friday night's contest can also be seen locally on WCTX.
