NEW YORK - Former Quinnipiac men's soccer student-athlete and assistant coach Tobias Esche ('16) has been named Head Coach at Yeshiva University, as announced by the department on July 18, 2022.
Esche takes over the men's soccer program at Yeshiva heading into the fall 2022 season, which begins for the Maccabees on Aug. 26. The former two-time All-MAAC First Team selection (2013, 2014) spent each of the last three seasons on Eric Da Costa's coaching staff.
"I am excited for Tobias as he embarks on the next step along his coaching journey," said Quinnipiac Head Coach Eric Da Costa. "I am proud of both the person and coach he has become and am grateful to the many contributions he made to our program here at Quinnipiac. The men's soccer program and the University have added a man of character and he will undoubtably add value to the campus community. I look forward to following their progress."
Esche played three full seasons at Quinnipiac from 2013-15 after spending his freshman year with the North Carolina Tar Heels. Esche made 57 total starts for the Bobcats in a three-year span, and was a key member of Quinnipiac's 2013 MAAC championship team. Esche started in all 20 games for QU in 2013, helping anchor a defensive unit that led the Bobcats to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

He is a two-time All-MAAC First Team selection (2013, 2014), and a two-time NSCAA All North Atlantic Region Second Team choice. He recorded three goals and four assists for 10 total points during his time at Quinnipiac. Esche was a member of the 2013 Bobcats – the last team in program history to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
"I would like to thank Athletic Director Gregory Fox and his incredible staff on entrusting me with this position of the men's soccer head coach at Yeshiva University," Esche said via yumacs.com. "I will bring my passion and professionalism for academic and athletic excellence to the men's soccer program. I would also like to thank my former head coach, Eric DaCosta, for helping me on my journey from his player to becoming a coach."
Esche graduated from Quinnipiac in 2016 with a Bachelors in Business Management. He then joined Southern New Hampshire for a graduate season, serving as a captain for SNHU and earning Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team honors.
