Softball Takes Down Merrimack, 6-2

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac softball team defeated the Merrimack Warriors, 6-2, on Wednesday afternoon. The Bobcats were led by first-year pitcher Taylor Walton, who threw a complete game with a season-high seven strikeouts. Lala Pasucal and Julia Woeste each notched a home run in the win.
The Bobcats move to 11-22 overall, and Merrimack stands at 8-25. Since April 10, the Bobcats have won six of its last 10 games.
Game One Recap:
First Inning – With Kayla Thomas on first base, Pascual hit a ball deep to right field to give Quinnipiac a 2-0 lead early in the game.
Second Inning – The Bobcats added four more runs in the second inning to take the lead to 6-0. Taylor Walton started the inning with a double to center. Cy Gonzalez came in to pinch run for Walton. Gianna Palmisano sent a single up the middle, allowing each runner to advance one base. Karolyn Walker reached first on an error, and Gonzalez scored. Julia Woeste stepped up and hit a three-run homer to left field to increase the Bobcats' lead to six runs.
The Warriors added two runs of their own in the sixth and seventh innings, but the Bobcats held on to win, 6-2.
Notable Stats:
Quinnipiac will play in its final home series of the year with a doubleheader against Marist on Saturday, April 30.
