HARTFORD, Conn. – Kyle Maves and Danny Melnick led the offense with two hits and two RBIs apiece, but it wasn't enough as the Quinnipiac baseball team came up short on the road, 9-6, on Tuesday afternoon at Dunkin' Donuts Park.

With the loss the Bobcats fell to 10-24 on the season, while the Blue Devils improved to 18-12 on the campaign with the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Quinnipiac struck first for three runs in the opening frame to jump out to an early advantage. With Anthony Donofrio on second, Kyle Maves served an RBI single to the outfield to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Danny Melnick powered a two-run homer to right to extend Quinnipiac's lead to 3-0 in the first.

However, CCSU responded with four runs of their own in the second inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Blue Devils plated two more runs in the fourth as well to extend their lead to 6-3.

Quinnipiac was able to score a run in the top of the fifth via a wild pitch, but CCSU responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to maintain a 7-4 lead.

The Bobcats mustered two runs in the sixth to trim the deficit to 7-6. With runners on the corners, Maves came through with an RBI infield single to trim the deficit to 7-5. Later in the inning, Andrew McDermott reached on a fielder's choice but a CCSU error in the field allowed QU to score, bringing the deficit to one.

However, CCSU plated two in the bottom of the seventh to extend the lead to 9-6, before going on to secure the three-run victory.
