NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Homers from Sean Swenson and Anthony Donofrio were enough to power the Quinnipiac baseball team past MAAC foe Iona on the road, 10-5, on Sunday afternoon at City Park.

With the win the Bobcats improved to 10-23 on the season and 4-8 in the MAAC, while the Gaels fell to 3-31 on the campaign and 3-12 in the MAAC with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Quinnipiac struck first in the opening frame to get off to a hot start. With runners in scoring position and two outs in the top of the first Ian Ostberg came through with a two-run double to score Anthony Donofrio and Danny Melnick to push the Bobcats ahead 2-0. However Iona responded with a run of their own in the second and in the third to tie the contest at 2-2.

Quinnipiac was able to navigate the storm and responded with five runs of its own in the fourth. With the bases loaded and one out in the frame, Sean Swenson blasted a grand slam to dead center, giving Quinnipiac a 6-2 advantage nearly midway through the contest. QU added a fifth run in the inning off a fielder's choice to increase the lead to 7-2. The Bobcats increased their lead to 8-2 in the sixth after Donofrio stole third then scored on a throwing error.

QU added two runs in the eighth off a two-run homer by Anthony Donofrio to extend the lead to 10-2. The deficit proved to be too much for the Gaels, as QU held on for the eventual 10-6 victory.

Melnick added two doubles and two runs scored
Donofrio contributed three hits, three runs scored, a homer and a stolen base
Gabriel Romano (2-0) got the start and earned the win after allowing five earned runs in 8.0 innings of work
He struck out eight in the outing
