Bobcats Push Hawks to Brink in 12-10 Defeat

Hamden, CT. – The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team ended the regular season with a loss to the Monmouth Hawks on Saturday afternoon. Senior Sydney Skalstad tallied two goals, pushing her season total to 29. Junior goalkeeper Kat Henselder made 12 saves for the Bobcats in the defeat.

Desiree Kleberg and Sophia Iaccino each recorded two goals. In total, seven Bobcats recorded goals in the against Monmouth.

GAME SUMMARY

Monmouth opened up the scoring just 37 seconds into the first quarter with a goal from Hope Steuerwald to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead.
Just 40 seconds later, Sophia Iaccino answered right back with her first goal of the match to square things up at one.
Monmouth answered back as Hope Steuerwald tallied her second goal within 1:09 to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead.
With 11:40 to play in the first quarter, Maddie Deegan capitalized on the free position attempt to even the game at two.
Monmouth fired back with three goals in less than two minutes to take a 5-2 lead.
Ellagrace Delmond got the Bobcats back within two with her 23^rd goal of the year. The Bobcats were trailing by two with 6:10 left in the opening quarter.
Sydney Skalstad followed up with her 23^rd goal of the year to bring Quinnipiac within one with 2:26 left in the first quarter.
Quinnipiac was rewarded a free position with 17 seconds left in the quarter and Amy Nicoloff took advantage, tallying her second goal of the year to tie the game at five.
The Bobcats and the Hawks entered the second quarter even at five.
Sydney Skalstad opened up the scoring in the second quarter off a nice pass from Sophia Iaccino to give the Bobcats a 6-5 lead.
The Hawks answered back with three goals to take an 8-6 lead.
Quinnipiac entered the locker room at the half trailing Monmouth 8-6.
The Bobcats started the scoring early in third quarter as Sophia Iaccino brought Quinnipiac within one.
Monmouth came right back with two goals to extend the lead to three, 10-7 Hawks.
Desiree Kleberg brought the Bobcats within two with a goal on the man-up advantage. Bobcats were trailing the Hawks 10-8 with 7:06 left in the third quarter.
Monmouth responded with one goal to take an 11-8 lead.
Desiree Kleberg responded just 33 seconds later to make it an 11-9 game with her 29^th goal of the season.
Monmouth extended the lead back to three on a free position goal with 5:24 left in the third quarter.
Maddie Noel tallied her sixth goal of the season to bring the Bobcats within two goals.
Quinnipiac trailed Monmouth 12-10 heading into the final quarter.

NOTES

The Bobcats were outshot by the Hawks, 34-29.
Both teams were very efficient clearing their defensive zones as Quinnipiac went 19-20 on clears and Monmouth went 18-21.
The Bobcats caused 15 Monmouth turnovers.
The Bobcats controlled 12 draws.
