QU Secures Series Over Monmouth With 13-7 Victory

With the win the Bobcats improved to 9-20 on the season and 3-6 in the MAAC, while the Hawks fell to 17-16 on the campaign and 7-2 in the MAAC with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats struck first in the bottom of the first, as Jared Zimbardo took the first pitch he saw for a ride over the right field fence for a leadoff solo homer to put QU ahead 1-0. The Bobcats added another run in the second after Matt DeRosa served an RBI single to right to score Keegan O'Connor from third.
Quinnipiac blew the game wide open with four runs in the third inning. The rally started after O'Connor lined a double to left with the bases loaded, clearing the diamond to give QU a 5-0 lead. Later in the inning with runners on first and third, Michael Kohn dropped down a bunt single to score O'Connor, increasing the Bobcats' lead to 6-0.
The Hawks responded with two runs of their own in the fourth to trim Quinnipiac's lead to 6-2. However, the Bobcats responded with a five-spot in the fifth to essentially put the game out of reach at 11-5. Monmouth tallied three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as Quinnipiac ultimately held on for the 13-7 victory.

- Zimbardo went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBIs and a solo homer
- O'Connor went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBIs

- Gabriel Romano (1-0) got the start and earned the win after allowing five runs in 6.0 innings of work
- Romano struck out three in the outing
- Matt DeLuca picked up the save after tossing three innings of relief to close the game
- The save was the first of the season for DeLuca
- The Bobcats will be back in action on Tuesday, April 19 when they play host to in-state rival CCSU
