Bobcats Fall in Sunday Doubleheader Contests at Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac baseball team dropped both contests in its doubleheader against MAAC foe Marist, falling in game one, 7-3, before dropping game two, 17-5, on Sunday afternoon at the McCann Baseball Field.

With the losses, the Bobcats fell to 6-19 on the season and 1-5 in the MAAC, while the Red Foxes improved to 15-10 on the campaign with the split and 5-3 in the MAAC.

GAME ONE: Marist 7, QU 3
After Marist struck first for a run in the first, Quinnipiac responded with a run of its own after Danny Melnick delivered an RBI single to left to knot the game at 1-1. After QU took a 2-1 lead in the third, Marist responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-2 lead.

The Bobcats cut the deficit to one in the fourth after Ian Ostberg served an RBI single to center, scoring McGwire Tuffy from third to trim Marist's lead to 4-3. However, Marist tacked on a run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to extend its lead to 7-3, before hanging on for the four-run victory.

GAME TWO: Marist 17, QU 5
Marist struck for four runs over the first two innings of play before QU responded with two runs in the third. Trailing 4-0 in the frame, Andrew McDermott stepped to the plate and launched a two-run shot to left center, cutting the deficit to 4-2.

The Red Foxes added 11 runs in the fourth to extend its lead to 15-2 before holding on for the 17-5 victory.

Ostberg led the offense with two hits, an RBI and a stolen base in game one
Melnick added a hit and an RBI in game one
Anthony Donofrio contributed a hit and a run scored in the effort
Derek Goldrick (0-0) got the start in game one and took the no-decision after allowing one run in 2.0 innings of work
Kevin Seitter (0-6) pitched in relief of Goldrick and suffered the loss after allowing six runs in 6.0 innings of work
Seitter struck out eight in the outing
Andrew McDermott and Jared Zimbardo led the offense in game two with two hits and two RBIs apiece in the loss
Matt DeLuca (0-3) got the start in game two and took the loss after allowing four runs in three innings of work

The Bobcats will be back in action on Tuesday, April 3 when they play host against in-state rival Hartford at 3 p.m.
