Bobcats Come Up Short in Middle Game at James Madison, 6-4

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Quinnipiac baseball team came up just short in the second game of its three-game set against James Madison, falling 6-4, on the road Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.

Sam LaChance and Kyle Maves led the offense with an RBI apiece in the loss.

With the loss the Bobcats fell to 2-6 on the season with the loss, while the Dukes improved to 7-4 on the campaign with the win.

After James Madison took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Dukes held the Bobcats scoreless through the first three innings. QU broke through in the fourth after Sam LaChance was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded, knotting the game at 1-1.

QU pushed ahead 4-1 with three runs in the fifth. With runners on second and third for the Bobcats, a wild pitch allowed Matt DeRosa to score from third. Maves immediately followed with an RBI single to score Donofrio from third to give Quinnipiac a 3-1 advantage. The Bobcats took a 4-1 lead after Keegan O'Connor reached on an error from the centerfielder, allowing Maves to score.

However, the Dukes responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame and posted two more in the seventh en route to a 6-4 win over QU.

Anthony Donofrio went 2-for-4 with two runs scored
Kyle Maves went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks
Keegan O'Connor went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double
Sam LaChance went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double
Kevin Seitter (1-1) got the start and took the no-decision after allowing four runs in six innings of work
Seitter registered four strikeouts in the win
Matt DeLuca (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing two runs in two innings of relief
DeLuca struck out three in the appearance
