Garcia Picks Up First Win of Season in QU's 8-2 Victory Over JMU

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Junior pitcher Brandyn Garcia picked up his first win of the season, leading the Quinnipiac baseball team to a 8-2 victory on the road Friday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.

Anthony Donofrio and Kyle Maves led the offense with three hits apiece, while Sam LaChance added two hits and two RBIs in the win.

With the win the Bobcats improved to 2-5 on the season, while the Dukes fell to 6-4 on the campaign with the loss.

The Bobcats struck first for two runs in the opening frame. After back-to-back singles from Anthony Donofrio and Kyle Maves, Keegan O'Connor blooped an RBI single into left to give QU a 1-0 lead. Two batters later Sean Swenson grounded out to short, scoring Maves from third to extend the Bobcats' lead to 2-0.

After James Madison responded with two runs of their own in the first, Quinnipiac posted four runs in the second inning. With a runner on third, Matt DeRosa delivered an RBI single to give QU a 3-2 lead. Donofrio immediately came through with an RBI triple to left, followed by an RBI infield single from maves to push the Bobcats' lead to 5-2. Two batters later Sam LaChance singled to short to score Maves from third to increase QU's lead to 6-2.

The Bobcats added two more runs in the sixth courtesy of a double steal and an RBI double from Sam LaChance to extend Quinnipiac's lead to 8-2.

Garcia registered four strikeouts in the win
Jimmy Hagan tossed three scoreless innings in relief and struck out two in the process
