HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University baseball head coach John Delaney announced a new team member, signing six-year-old Cameron Wilson through Team IMPACT.
Cameron, who in 2017, was diagnosed with leukemia but is now in remission, was officially introduced at a signing day press conference on Saturday, February 12 on campus. He will participate in many activities with the baseball team over the next two years, including games, practices, and other team events.
"We are extremely excited about the signing of Cam to our program, he's a tremendous person, brings fun energy and is an extremely tough kid," Delaney said. "We are so thankful that he is part of this program and I really look forward to seeing our team and Cam grow together."
Team IMPACT, a national non-profit organization, has developed a unique multiyear program that matches children facing serious illnesses and disabilities with college athletic teams across the country. Based on a clinical model, Team IMPACT guides a symbiotic relationship between teams and children focused on socialization, empowerment, and resilience.
"Team IMPACT is excited to see Cameron officially join the Bobcat family," said Danielle Hardee, Regional Director of Programs, Northeast at Team IMPACT. "We are proud to work alongside Quinnipiac, their athletic department and coaching staff to create lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes between student-athletes and their Team IMPACT teammates."
Quinnipiac University has worked with Team IMPACT for the past 10 years, matching six children across its baseball, men's ice hockey, men's lacrosse, men's soccer, and men's tennis teams.
