CALGARY, Alta. – Six Quinnipiac women's ice hockey players have been invited to Hockey Canada's 2021 BFL National Women's Development Team Summer Camp. In addition, head coach Cass Turner will also be attending the camp as the assistant coach for the Under-18 NextGen camp participants, as announced by Hockey Canada on July 14.
"Having the opportunity to compete with Hockey Canada is always an honor and privilege," Turner said. "We're very proud of our athletes for earning this opportunity and excited for them to get to work!"
Canada's National Women's Development Team will return to the ice after two years to host 40 athletes in Calgary. Lexie Adzija, Kendall Cooper, Ann-Frédérik Naud, Corinne Schroeder, Zoe Boyd and Zoe Uens (Class of 2022 signee) were all invited to attend this year's camps. Five of the Bobcats will be traveling to Calgary to participate; Boyd will unfortunately not be able to attend.
The forty players attending will be split into two teams to participate in practices and intra-squad games from July 29-Aug. 9 at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park. Six goaltenders, 12 defensemen and 22 forwards will make up the camp's roster. The players will also compete in two scrimmages against Canada's National Women's Team Aug. 7-9.
In addition to the National Women's Development Team Camp, the U18 National Women's Under-18 Team Summer Development Camp will take place July 29-Aug. 5. This camp is specifically for athletes born in 2003 who attended Canada's National Women's Under-18 virtual summit camp last summer. Uens will attend this camp and has signed to play at Quinnipiac in the Class of 2022.
Turner will serve as an assistant coach for the NextGen athletes at the camp, alongside Noémie Marin (John Abbott College), Chelsea Grills (University of Ottawa) and Amanda tap (Calgary, Alta.).
In June of 2020, Adzija, Cooper, Boyd and junior Kate Reilly were all invited to participate in the BFL National Women's Development Team Summer Camp, which was held virtually for 100 of Canada's rising stars.
