Bobcats Fall in Game 1 of Doubleheader at Canisius, Game 2 Suspended

Maves Records RBI Double, Baseball to Resume Game 2 Monday at 10:30 AM
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac baseball team returned to the diamond for the first time since April 14 and fell in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader with Canisius, 5-1, and currently trail the Golden Griffins, 5-4, after three innings in the second game of the doubleheader.
Quinnipiac and Canisius will resume the second game of the doubleheader Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. before playing Monday's originally scheduled doubleheader.
Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario) led the Bobcats in the doubleheader going 2 for 3 with an RBI double while Sam LaChance (Dover, New Hampshire) had a double and a run scored.
Canisius scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning before adding single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Maves drove in LaChance with his RBI double in the top of the fifth inning to cut the Golden Griffins' lead to three.
The Bobcats' scored four times in the top of the first inning in the second game of the doubleheader and the Golden Griffins scored five times in the bottom of the third inning before the game was suspended due to rain.

- LaChance doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning before he came around to score in the next at bat as Maves drilled a ground-rule double that bounced over the centerfield wall.

FIRST INNING
- Lutz led off the game with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a passed ball
- After Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) walked, Lutz came around to score on a Mueller singled through the left side.
- Marrero drew a six-pitch walk to load the bases before Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) had an RBI groundout to score Vulgamore and Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) had an RBI groundout to score Mueller.
- After a Danny Melnick (Hamilton, New Jersey) walk to put runners on the corners, Maves drilled an RBI single through the left side to score Marrero and take a 4-0 lead.
NOTES
- Maves recorded his second straight two-hit game with a double and added an RBI.
- He is now batting .318 on the season and has four two-hit games.
- LaChance recorded a hit for a third straight game and now has three doubles this season.
- He scored his eighth run of the season.
- Lutz singled to raise his batting average to .322 on the season. He has 19 hits in 59 at bats.
- Quinnipiac and Canisius will resume the second game of Sunday's doubleheader on Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. before playing Monday's originally scheduled doubleheader.
