Maciel to Represent United States at 2021 Concacaf Futsal Championship (May 3-9 in Guatemala)
CHICAGO, Ill. – Former Quinnipiac men's soccer student-athlete Everson Maciel ('02) has been named to the USA National Futsal Team, as announced by the program.
U.S. Futsal Head Coach Dusan Jakica announced the 14-player roster that will represent the United States at the 2021 Concacaf Futsal Championship from May 3-9 in Guatemala. Maciel is the second Bobcat to represent USA Futsal – as Phillip Surprise ('12) represented the program in 2014.
Everson Maciel was the first Quinnipiac men's soccer player to be selected to an All-Northeast Conference Team – earning First Team honors in 2000. That same season, he led the team with 36 points on the strength of 13 goals and 10 assists. He was also named to the AllNSCAA/Adidas All-New England Second Team in 2000.

He then became the Northeast Conference Player of the Year in 2001, leading the NEC in goals (17) and points (38) while finishing third nationally in goals per game (1.04) and sixth nationally in points per game (2.38). Maciel scored 31 career goals at Quinnipiac, which ranks tied for fourth-most in program history.
Maciel and USA will face El Salvador, Nicaragua and Cuba in Group D Play at the 13-team tournament. Following round-robin action, the top two squads from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The four semifinalists will earn a berth at the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania this September (rescheduled from 2020).
