Maples Breaks Two School Records at Monmouth Spring Invitational

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Quinnipiac track & field team had a solid day at the Monmouth Spring Invite on Sunday, April 18 in West Long Branch, N.J., at Kessler Stadium. Graduate student Mikah Maples threw for two school records in the discus (43.64m) and javelin (44.24m), placing fourth and second, respectively.

- Senior Brooke Hagen finished first in the 800m with a time of 2:19.24. Junior Emily Young placed fourth (2:20.19).
- In the 100m hurdles, junior Symone Foster took first place with a time of 14.47. Junior Kalli'ana Botelho recorded a time of 14.65 in second, which is a new season-best for her.
- First-year Alyssa Romagnoli finished in third in the 100m with a time of 12.60, which is a new season-best for the rookie. Junior Aisha Gay took fifth with a new season-best time of 12.64. Senior Britney Del Mundo finished in seventh (12.71).
- In the 200m dash, junior Aisha Gay finished in third place with a time of 25.62, which is a new season-best for the junior and is now ranked second in the MAAC. Senior Meaghan Scullin took fourth place in the same event with a time of 25.75, which is also a season-best. First-year Hayden Robinson placed seventh (26.04), and Romagnoli took eighth (26.07).
- Junior Caitlyn Halloran placed second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.54, which is an almost two-second improvement from her time at the UConn Spring Invite.
- Senior Melissa Solomon took fifth place in the 400m with a new season-best time of 58. 37. First-year Jada Dennis was right behind Solomon in sixth place (1:00.79). First-year Asia Mercier took ninth with a time of 1:03.09.
- Senior Amanda Carlson placed fourth in the 1500m with a time of 4:38.82, which is a team-best in this event this season. Senior Brooke Hagen recorded a time of 4:41.62 in seventh place, and senior Mia Pestle took eighth place with a time of 4:42.13. Junior Emily Young finished in 10th (4:43.02).
- First-year Alessandra Zaffina placed second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:21.06, which is a new season-best. Senior Madeleine Shellard and Ana Carliri also finished in the top ten in sixth (12:09.42) and seventh (12:21.31) place, respectively.
- In the 500m, junior Shannon Goria recorded a time of 18:26.00 in fourth place, and sophomore Marisa Keiser took fifth (18:30.72).
- Junior Kate Gihorski took eighth place in the 10000m (39:29.82), and senior Samantha Leal finished in ninth (40:44.98).
- The Bobcats' relay team took second in the 4x100m relay. Monmouth won the race by .12 seconds, as Quinnipiac's team finished with a time of 48.80 and the Hawks tallied a time of 48.66. In the 4x400m, the Bobcats had three relay teams place in third, fifth and seventh place. The top Quinnipiac time was 3:58.33.
- Botelho took first in the high jump with a new season-best mark of 1.70m. Her 1.70 jump also ties her career-best. She now has the top mark in the MAAC.
- First-year Grace Davis took fifth in the high jump (1.50m).
- Graduate student Mikah Maples took fourth place in the discus throw (43.64m), which is a new season-best for the thrower and a new school record.
- Senior Meaghan Scullin finished in second place in the long jump with a 5.76m mark, which is a new season-best and is now the second-best mark in the MAAC.
- Maples also took second place in the javelin throw with a 44.24m mark, which is also a new season-best, a new school record and is ranked second in the MAAC. Sophomore Amanda Minervino recorded an eighth place finish (34.27m).
- Maples tallied a third place finish in the shot put (13.10m).
- The Bobcats will compete at Stony Brook on Friday, April 23.
