PHILADELPHIA — The Quinnipiac women's track and field program rewrote the record books at the 130th running of the Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field in downtown Philadelphia over the weekend. The Bobcats sent select student athletes to the nationally-acclaimed meet as they competed over three days against high-level competition.
Sydney Lavelle started the competition on Thursday in the 400m hurdles, finishing 30th out of 42 in the Championship event, clocking in at 1:01.18. The distance events were the last of the night, as three Bobcats ran in the 5000m race. Rachel St. Germain paced the crew, finishing 41st in 16:40.49. Zoe Merryman and Madeleine O'Neill finished in 16:54.71 and 16:59.48, respectively.
On Friday is when the fireworks began, as the Bobcats set new MAAC records in both the 4x100 relay and 100m dash, as well as making a new school mark in the Sprint Medley Relay.
Nyasia Dailey was part of both of the first two records, running the 100m in 11.54 to qualify for Saturday's final in the College 100m event. She also ran the opening leg of the College Women's 4x100 relay event that included Kiera Baxter, Michelle Tota and Izzie Anzaldo. That combination led the Bobcats to win their heat by close to a second and set a new MAAC and program mark at 45.07 to qualify for Saturday's final.
The 4x400 relay team was the third and final Quinnipiac representation to qualify for Saturday's finals, with Isabella Pistoia, Madelyn Durkee, Claire O'Sullivan and Tamia Chapman running the race in 3:53.20 to set a new program mark.
To close out the night's action, the Spring Medley Relay team of Kiera Baxter, Michelle Tota, Izzie Anzaldo and Ashlynn Witt bested the school record by three seconds to end the day on a high note.
In field action, both Lauren Fadairo and Talia Graham competed in the College edition of their respective events. Graham matched her outdoor program record by hitting 3.75m in the pole vault, while Fadairo marked 11.80m in her second jump.
The action continued on Saturday in the three finals where all Quinnipiac entries finished second in their respective final. The 4x100 relay finished in 47.30, which put them 0.29 seconds behind winners La Salle. The 4x400 relay finished 0.44 behind Bryant and Dailey ran 11.91 to place second in the 100m.
