Former Men's Ice Hockey Defenseman Dealt with 2023 Pick for Erik Gudbranson

OTTAWA, Ontario – Former Quinnipiac men's ice hockey defenseman Brandon Fortunato '19 was traded at the NHL Trade Deadline Monday from the Nashville Predators to the Ottawa Senators.
Fortunato, in addition to a 2023 seventh round pick, were traded for defenseman Erik Gudbranson.
Fortunato has played nine games for the AHL's Cleveland Monsters, where he is a +3 with three shots on goal and eight penalty minutes. He has been on loan from Nashville to Cleveland for the 2020-21 season.
He played all of the 2019-20 season in the ECHL with the Florida Everblades, registering two goals and 19 assists for 21 points in 48 games played.
Fortunato was a point per game player as a senior in 2018-19 for the Bobcats as he had five goals, 23 assists and 28. Despite missing the final 12 games, Fortunato still finished fourth on the team with 28 points while his 23 assists were second on the team.
He also tied for fourth among ECAC Hockey defenseman with 28 points while his 23 assists ranked third. He was also tied for sixth in ECAC Hockey with a +16 plus/minus rating.
Fortunato finished his career with 16 goals and 60 assists for 76 points in 142 games between Quinnipiac and Boston University. Fortunato had 10 goals and 26 assists for 36 points in his Quinnipiac career after tallying 40 points in his first two seasons at Boston University.
He will be a restricted free agent following the 2020-21 season.
