QUEENS, N.Y. – Quinnipiac men's tennis returns to play on Wednesday, traveling to the USTA National Tennis Center in Queens, N.Y. to take on St. John's in a non-conference match.
The Bobcats are coming off a big 4-3 win over Colgate on Sunday, March 7 to begin the spring season.

QUEENS, N.Y. – Quinnipiac men's tennis returns to play on Wednesday, traveling to the USTA National Tennis Center in Queens, N.Y. to take on St. John's in a non-conference match.
The Bobcats are coming off a big 4-3 win over Colgate on Sunday, March 7 to begin the spring season.

- The Bobcats earned a 4-3 win in North Haven last Sunday to begin the year.
- The Bobcats picked up four points in singles play to earn the win. Alester Magalit clinched the victory with a three-set win at No. 2 singles.
- 2018-19 MAAC Rookie of the Year Alester Magalit won 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in No. 2 singles, earning his 30th career singles win.
- Ayato Arakaki earned a decisive 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 3 singles, his first win as a Quinnipiac student-athlete.
- Patrick Cachapero won in three sets, taking the No. 4 singles point. The graduate student had six singles wins in 2019-20.
- Austin Yannone won in straight sets at No. 6 singles. He had six singles wins last year.
- Aleksa Martinovic and Austin Yannone earned a win at No. 2 doubles, their second win as a duo in as many years.
- Quinnipiac enters the spring 2021 season guided by its two returning graduate students (Patrick Cachapero, Austin Yannone) and one senior (Hielke Moore).
- Junior Alester Magalit won a team-high 11 singles matches last season. He earned three MAAC Player of the Week honors last year.
- Junior Aleksa Martinovic also returns for the Bobcats in 2021. He had six singles wins and seven doubles wins last year – and spent his offseason in Serbia readying for the season.
- Junior Bryan Schick (eight doubles wins in '20-21) and Clark Davis (two doubles wins in '20-21) also return for the Bobcats.
- The Bobcats have four newcomers: Ayato Arakaki (Saitama, Japan), Kemal Karagozoglu (Port St. Lucie, Fla.), Shaurya Sood (Amritsar, India) and graduate student Beekman Schaeffer (Homestead, Fla.).
- Quinnipiac men's tennis has been selected No. 2 in the 2021 MAAC Men's Tennis Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league office on Wednesday, February 24, 2021.
- The Bobcats earned 38 total points in the poll – finishing just behind Monmouth for the top spot. Quinnipiac earned one first-place vote, while Monmouth garnered the other six selections for the top spot.
- Men's Tennis Head Coach Chris Pappas helped lead the Bobcats to the 2019 MAAC Tournament championship match two years ago. Quinnipiac went 4-2 in MAAC play that season, then earned a 4-1 win over Marist in the MAAC Semifinals.
- Last year (2019-20), Quinnipiac defeated Holy Cross on Oct. 5. The remainder of the 2020-21 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- The Bobcats have earned 56 total wins in six seasons under Pappas. The two-time MAAC Coach of the Year selection has led the program to a 26-8 MAAC record (2014-15 – current).
