Softball Drops Two to Monmouth

Third Inning – The Bobcats responded to the Hawks' four-run inning in the third with three runs of their own. First-year Ela Henry advanced to first base after getting hit by a pitch from Monmouth's Alyssa Irons. Sophomore Cy Gonzalez singled down the left field line to advance Henry to second. Sophomore Sydney Tedim advanced to first after also getting hit by a pitch. Sophomore Katherine Rodriguez hit a double to center field and recorded three RBIs to take the Bobcats within one run of the Hawks.
The Hawks would score four runs in the top of the fourth inning to extend their lead to 8-3. Later, the Hawks would add eight more runs in the sixth inning to go up 16-3. Monmouth would later secure the 16-3 win after getting the three out in the bottom of the six inning.
Notable Stats:
- The Bobcats held the Hawks scoreless through the first two innings.
- Rodriguez had two hits on three at-bats with three RBI.
- In the circle, first-years Julia Woeste and Karolyn Walker had two strikeouts, and Monmouth's Alyssa Irons had nine of her own.
First Inning - Monmouth went up 1-0 after the top of the first, and the Bobcats answered to tie the game 1-1 after the first inning. Senior Kayla Jensen was walked, and Rodriguez singled to center field to advance Jensen to second. First-year Kayla Thomas grounded out to second base and recorded an RBI as Jensen scored.
The Hawks would score five more runs in the third and fifth innings to secure the 6-1 victory.
Notable Stats:
- Rodriguez led the team with two hits on three at-bats
- Jensen recorded one hit with two at-bats and was walked twice.
- First-year Julia Woeste pitched seven innings (0-4) and notched three strikeouts.
- For Monmouth, Kyie Gletow earned the win and pitched seven innings with four strikeouts.
Quinnipiac will host Monmouth for two more games on Saturday, March 27 at 12 and 2 p.m.
