Hamden, Conn. - As spring brings warmer weather and more opportunities for safe outdoors activities, we are pleased to announced that Quinnipiac will slowly relax certain COVID-related restrictions. This is a result of the hard work of our student body to help us sustain a low level of new COVID-19 cases, combined with recent state of Connecticut guidance that has eased some restrictions effective March 19.
While Quinnipiac will maintain stricter guidelines than the state in some areas (e.g., indoor dining will remain at reduced capacity), we will relax some of our guidelines for university and student-sponsored events, and recreational and athletic activities. We will place an emphasis on opening outdoor activities, which are safer.
NEWEST UPDATE REGARDING MAAC CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS
In an effort to maintain a safe environment for our MAAC Championship competitions (all postseason contests), no outside spectators will be permitted to attend postseason events on Quinnipiac's campus. Our current policy of two family members per Quinnipiac student-athlete will not apply for MAAC Championship contests.
Criteria for reopening activities
We will reintroduce activities slowly for the safety and health of our community and to ensure proper staffing and monitoring. Reopening decisions are based upon the following criteria and can be paused or reversed if conditions deteriorate:
- Trend in the rate of new COVID-19 cases within our campus community – do your part to keep our COVID cases low!
- COVID-19 case rates within local communities and the state.
- Campus risk-level of green; limited activities may still be permitted at yellow.
- Ability to regulate appropriate attendance levels and safety protocols at venues.
Student spectators at QU outdoor spring athletics events
- Beginning March 19, students can cheer on your Bobcats in person!
- Only outdoor sports will be allowed spectators; masks must be worn and physical distancing must be practiced.
- We will observe capacity limits at each venue and athletics staff will monitor and enforce capacity levels; entry is first come, first served.
- Student Athlete parent/family members attendance will commence for all athletic events on campus beginning April 1st. This policy only applies to Quinnipiac Student Athlete Family Members. Visiting team fans, including family members, are still prohibited to attend.
The following 3-step process has been created to make sure that we abide by Quinnipiac University & NCAA compliance rules.
Step #1: Team must submit a list of two parents/family members for each student athlete to Athletics Department, by noon time the day before the next game. List will be submitted to Public Safety.
Step #2: Parents/family members who are attending the game must park in North Lot (Entrance off Mt. Carmel Ave.) The Public Safety officer at the North Lot gate will only allow people to park on the gate list once identification is confirmed with valid ID. Anyone else will be turned away. Parents can then park in North Lot and walk to the field/venue. Parents/family are instructed to arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before the start of the game.
Step #3: Once at the field/venue, parents must check-in at the Parent Check-in table (Signage will mark the table). Due to NCAA rules, we need to use a gate list to confirm that only people on the list are attending. The parents will show ID and will be given a wrist band. Parents/family members must leave 10 minutes after the conclusion of the game
RULES TO KEEP IN MIND - Parents/family are instructed to arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before the game and leave no later than 10 minutes after the game.
- Tailgating is prohibited.
For those fans and family members that will not be in attendance, each home Bobcat game will still be streamed live and free of charge at gobobcats.com.
Be well. Stay safe. Go Bobcats!
