Former Bobcats' Acrobatics and Tumbling All-American Joins Coaching Staff for 2021 Season
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling alumna Camren Diaz '20 has returned to her alma mater as a volunteer assistant coach on Mary Ann Powers' staff, as announced by Powers on Monday, August 24.
"I am excited for the program and our student-athletes to bring Camren on to our staff," Powers said. "She is passionate, invested and has always exhibited both unwavering commitment and leadership."
Following her senior season that was cut short by the COVID-19 Pandemic, Diaz was one of 11 grads from National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling (NCATA) Institutions to attend the NCATA Proper Progression Program (3P), which is designed to provide specific training and networking opportunities to recent graduates who are interested in coaching in the sport.
Diaz is one of the most decorated student-athletes in Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling history, as she is one of four two-time NCATA All-Americans in program history. Diaz was also recognized by the NCATA with a spot on the 2019 All-Academic Team, the equivalent of an Academic All-American honor.
Her list of athletic achievements continued at the conference level as she was named the 2019 ECAC Athlete of the Year Award as well as a two-time All-ECAC selection in 2018 and 2019.
Away from the mat, Diaz was an exceptional student in the classroom as she made the Dean's List in all eight semesters as a member of the University Honors Program and was a member of the Alpha Eta Honor Society.
Diaz was also very involved around campus and the community. As a senior, she was the President of the Q-Coor Service Club which coordinated community service efforts for all Quinnipiac student-athletes. Diaz also recently spent two years at Yale-New Haven Hospital as an Emergency Department College Volunteer and spent the Summer of 2019 as a volunteer at Hospital General El Buen Samaritano in La Romana, Dominican Republic.
She also has spent several years coaching and supervising in gymnastics and completed Levels 1-3 of the Professional Gymnastics Coaching Development Course.
She graduated this past May with a B.S. in Health Science studies and a minor in Global Public Health.
