Fifth Bobcat to sign with NWHL team this offseason
DANBURY, Conn. - Abbie Ives '20 of Quinnipiac women's ice has signed with the NWHL's Connecticut Whale after the conclusion of the 2019-20 season. Ives is the fifth Bobcat to sign with an NWHL organization this season.
"I'm excited to sign with the Whale and to have the opportunity to continue my hockey career," Ives said. "I've spent pretty much my entire life playing hockey in this area, and am thrilled to be able to play at the professional level now. I'm excited about the team and the staff and can't wait to get started!"
The Bedford Hills, N.Y. native becomes the 11th Quinnipiac women's ice hockey alum to sign a professional contract with an NWHL team. Since 2017, seven alums have signed with the Whale and four more have signed and played with other NWHL teams.
Most recently, four Quinnipiac alumnae signed with the NWHL's newest organization, the Toronto Six. Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout, Emma Greco, Kelly Babstock and Shiann Darkangelo will all play together in Toronto once the NWHL season commences.
Ives recently finished her decorated career with the women's ice hockey team. The senior netminder finished her senior campaign with a record of 17-13-3. She notched three shutouts, a 1.91 goals against average and .927 save percentage.
She ranks second on the program's all-time records list in career saves with 2,231. Ives finished her career as a Bobcat with a .926 save percentage and 1.79 goals against average, which are both ranked fourth-best in program history.
The senior also wrote a letter to #BobcatNation to remark on her time in Hamden. You can read it here.
