Bobcats First Year Earns Second First Year of the Week Award
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling first year base Nicolette Tianga (Deer Park, New York) has been named the NCATA First Year of the Week for a second straight week, as announced by the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA) on Thursday afternoon.
Tianga has earned first year of the week honors in each of the first two weeks of the Bobcats' 2020 season after an impressive start to her Quinnipiac career.
Megan Hamel (Methuen, Massachusetts) was named to the honorable mention of both the Athlete of the Week and Specialist of the Week Awards, her second straight week making the honorable mention.
Quinnipiac opened the season with back-to-back wins over Presbyterian and Davis and Elkins for the Bobcats' first 2-0 start since the 2014 season.
Tianga competed in nine heats over five events for the Bobcats in a 269.235-243.865 victory over the Senators on Monday. She competed in four of the six highest scoring events, including an impressive 9.85 score in the inversion of the pyramid event.
She was also a part of a 9.75 in the open pyramid as the Bobcats equaled their season-high with a 29.20 in the pyramid event. Tianga also based a pair of 9.70s in the compulsory event during the pyramid heat and toss heats.
The Bobcats were also nearly perfect in their open toss after recording a 9.30 with a start value of 9.50.
Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling returns to action Sunday in their first top three matchup as the Bobcats will take on No. 2 Oregon at Matthew Knight Arena at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT.
