Softball Splits Doubleheader with Central Michigan

Kennedy-Cummings pitches complete game shutout in Bobcats' 8-0 win
Highlights Game 1 (W, 8-0):
First Inning - The Bobcats opened the game by scoring two runs in the first inning after first-year Katherine Rodriguez hit a homerun with sophomore Kayla Jensen on base. Quinnipiac would take a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
Fifth Inning - Rodriguez would score her second run of the game after a passed ball by Central Michigan. First-year Hannah Wickson also scored from third base after sophomore Alexis Otero hit a fly ball to left field, recording an RBI.
Sixth Inning - The Bobcats would tack on another run in the sixth inning after sophomore Bridget Nasir hit a sacrifice bunt to allow senior Rachel Marchuk to score, giving Quinnipiac a 6-0 lead.
Seventh Inning - Marchuk later hit a three-run home run to extend Quinnipiac's lead to 8-0.
Notable Stats:
- Kennedy-Cummings earned her second win of the season and first shutout-complete game. She allowed just five hits with three strikeouts through seven innings pitched.
- Marchuk was perfect in the first game, going 3-3 with a three-run homer, two runs and three RBIs.
- Rodriguez tallied her first home run of the season and had two RBIs in the win.
- The Bobcats recorded nine hits in the first game, and the Chippewas had five.
- This is the first shutout for the Bobcats this season.
Highlights Game 2 (L, 5-1):
First Inning - The Chippewas came out and scored three runs in the first inning to take an early lead.
Sixth Inning - The Bobcats would get on the board after Jensen hit a home run, but the Chippewas would extend its lead to 5-1 and earn the second-game victory.
- The Chippewas had seven hits compared to the Bobcats' one.
- First-year Lala Pascual pitched seven innings and moves to 0-4 on the season. Central Michigan's Cloe Mallory picked up the win.
The Spring Games continue for Quinnipiac this week. The Bobcats will be back in action on Friday, March 13 to take on Toledo and Bulter.
