Bobcats Ranked Third in Preseason Top 10 for Second Straight Season

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling has been selected third in the NCATA Preseason Top 10, as announced by the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association on Monday, Jan. 27.
The Bobcats were picked No. 3 for the second straight season and received 330 points in the preseason poll, as voted on by the NCATA coaches.
Quinnipiac trailed only Baylor, who received 386 points and 23 of the 26 first-place votes, and Oregon who had 358 points and two first-place votes. Azusa Pacific was selected fourth just behind the Bobcats with 328 points and the final first-place vote.
Quinnipiac had another impressive season in 2019 as the Bobcats finished the season with a 5-3 record and reached the NCATA Semifinals for a fourth straight season. After a challenging start to the season against Oregon and Baylor, Quinnipiac rattled off five straight wins for the second-longest winning streak in program before falling to Baylor in the semifinals in Waco, Texas.
Seniors Camren Diaz (Oxford, Connecticut) and Melanie Mancini (Waterbury, Connecticut) were both named NCATA All-Americans in 2019 as well as recognition to the NCATA All-Academic Team. Diaz's All-America honors were her second straight while Mancini was recognized for the first time.
The Bobcats also earned three ECAC major awards as Diaz was named the Athlete of the Year, Cassidy Osher (Old Bridge, New Jersey) earned Specialist of the Year honors and Mary Ann Powers was named the Coach of the Year for a third straight season.
Diaz and Mancini were named to the All-ECAC team for a second straight season while Carly Duval (Tampa, Florida), Erin Redding '19 and Asia Johnson (New Britain, Connecticut) all were honored for the first time. Osher, Megan Hamel (Methuen, Massachusetts) and Karen DeFilippo (Durham, Connecticut) were all named o the ECAC Honorable Mention.
Quinnipiac acrobatics and tumbling kicks off the season on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. as the Bobcats travel to Clinton, South Carolina to take on the Presbyterian Blue Hose in Presbyterian's first-ever meet.
