After a week off, Bobcats back in action at Holmdel Park
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's and women's cross country programs are headed to Holmdel, N.J., to compete in the 25th Annual Henry Mercer Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21. The Bobcats are returning to competition after a week off. Hosted by Monmouth, the Henry Mercer Invitational is set to begin at 10:15 a.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 11, the men's cross country team finished third out of 11 teams at the Nassaney Invitational hosted by Bryant. Two Bobcats placed in the top ten - Michael Kiernan took first for the Bobcats with a time of 25:06.8 and sophomore Cam Starr recorded a time of 25:52.8 in 10th place.
The women's cross country team took second out of eight teams at Bryant's Nassaney Invitational for the team's second finish in second place of the season. Senior Meghan Curtin led the Bobcats with a ninth place finish overall (18:43.1) in the 5k race, and freshman Emily Young finished in 11th place (18:50.7) to highlight the Bobcats' top finishers.
This is the third of six meets for both teams leading up to the 2019 MAAC Championships on Nov. 2. In 2018, the women's team took third place out of six teams, and the men's team took second out of six teams.
The men's team welcomes three newcomers to the squad – Dylan Manning (North Scituate, R.I.), Matthew Rene (North Scituate, R.I.) and Gary Sautner (Syosset, N.Y.) – and will return 10 letter winners from the 2018 season.
Seniors Michael Kiernan, Tommy Consalvo, Joseph Lazzaro and Matthew Allen will look to build up on the success from last year after the team finished fourth at the MAAC Championships.
