HAMDEN, Conn. – Former Quinnipiac baseball pitcher Robbie Hitt has bee
n invited to the Arizona Fall League, as announced by the Milwaukee Brewers organization prior to the 2019 Arizona Fall League season.
The Arizona Fall League is an off-season league owned and operated by Major League Baseball. It attracts many of the top prospects from Minor League Baseball and runs from Sept. 18 through the championship game on Oct. 26.
Hitt is the second former Quinnipiac baseball player to be invited to the Arizona Fall League after Pat Egan '07 received an invite in 2010 after his third minor league season in the Baltimore Orioles organization. Egan made 10 appearances in the Arizona Fall League, posting a 2.13 ERA in 12 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts and allowed just three runs on 11 hits.
Hitt just wrapped his third minor league season in the Brewers organization, splitting time between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Single A and the Carolina Mudcats in Class A Advanced. Between the two leagues, Hitt post a 2.90 ERA in 44 games, recording 55 strikeouts in 59 innings. He allowed just two home runs all season.
Hitt was called up to Carolina on July 26 after spending the beginning of the season with the Timber Rattlers, where he appeared in 12 games with a 2.93 ERA and struck out 16 batters in 15 1/3 innings.
In three seasons with the Bobcats, Hitt made 56 appearances and made 20 starts where he went 10-13 and had 10 saves. He struck out 139 batters in 169 innings throughout his career. As a freshman, Hitt went 6-4 with a 4.10 ERA in 21 appearances and five starts, recording 49 strikeouts in 59 1/3 innings and opponents hit just .225 against him. As a sophomore, Hitt broke the single-season save record with eight saves before returning to a starting role in 2017 as a junior.
Hitt and the Desert Dogs kicked off the season on Wednesday, Sept. 18 and will play 30 games through Oct. 25 before the championship game on Oct. 26.
