
O'Connor Signs Three Newcomers for 2019-20

Three Freshmen to Join Women's Golf Team
HAMDEN, Conn. - Head women's golf coach John O'Connor and the Quinnipiac women's golf program will welcome three new players for the 2019-20 season as members of the Class of 2023, as announced today.
The three student-athletes that will join the Bobcats in the fall are Kaylee Sakoda (Cypress, Calif./Troy), Leeyen Peralta (Brea, Calif./Cornelia Connelly School), Mia Grzywinski (Farmington, Conn./Farmington)
Kaylee Sakoda
Cypress, Calif.
Troy High School
- High school team National Champions
- Competed at the 2019 USGA Girls' Junior Championship, where she qualified for the round of 64 (of 150) after a 13-player playoff
- Shot a low round of 69 at Reflection Bay CC during competition
- Member of the Transamerica Scholastic Junior All-American Team
- Finished Top 3 in the Gary Woodland Junior Championship in 2018
- Qualified for USGA US Girls Championship in 2018
- Received the Coldwell Banker Shooting Star Award from AJGA
- Was the OCADA Freeway League Margaret Davis Female Athlete of the Year
- Won a California State Championship and was a two-time runner-up
- Has hit four hole in ones in her career
- Plans to major in finance
O'Connor on Sakoda: Kaylee has had a very special year competing in some of the most prestigious tournaments with great finishes. Kaylee has worked with some of the best swing coaches out there and should be a standout for us throughout her career.
Leeyen Peralta
Brea, Calif.
Cornelia Connelly School
- Was First Team All-League and team captain for four years in high school
- Won Athlete of the Year at her high school
- Has five top-10 finishes in AJGA competition
- Currently ranked 42nd in the country for her class in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings
- Won the LA County Junior Championship
- Finished 2nd at the Veritas World Junior Championship
- Coached by George Pinnell and Mark Reid
- Shot a low round of 66 in the AJGA/CJGA Championship
- Member of the Trans-American Honor Roll
- Played on the SCPGA Junior Tour and in the AJGA
- Obtained her black belt in Taekwondo at age nine and won the US National Championship
- Ranked 93rd in her class by Juniorgolfscoreboard.com
- Plans to major in nursing
O'Connor on Peralta: Leeyen comes from California and has competed in Southern California amongst the best golfers in the country. Leeyen's low round of 66 was the second lowest score in the country in AJGA competition for 2018. Leeyen is a fierce competitor and can compete against any golfer in the country.
Mia Grzywinski
Farmington, Conn.
Farmington High School
- Was an All-State and All-Conference golfer for four years in high school
- Earned All-New England honors in 2017
- Named CTPGA Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017
- Earned the CTPGA Jack Kelly Sportsmanship Award in 2017
- First player ever to win Player of the Year and Jack Kelly award in same year
- Is a second degree black belt
- Plans to major in software engineering
O'Connor on Grzywinski: Mia has competed in the northeast in the highest level competition and done extremely well. Mia is a leader and will fit it in a very positive way to complete our team. Mia has worked with Bill Whaley who is widely know as one of the best golf instructors in the northeast.
The Class of 2023 will join a Bobcat program that stacks up well for the coming year, with most of its top performers returning, including senior Alexandra Sazhin, and junior Queenie Lai.
