
Connor Clifton Agrees to Contract Extension with NHL's Boston Bruins

Former Bobcat Extended Through 2022-23 Season After Stellar First Year

BOSTON, Mass. – Former Quinnipiac men's ice hockey co-captain Connor Clifton '17 has received a three-year contract extension from the NHL's Boston Bruins, as announced by the Bruins on Monday, July 1.
Clifton, who signed a two-year NHL Contract prior to the 2018-19 season, was extended through the 2022-23 season. Clifton's extension kicks in following the 2019-20 season, the final year of his original contract with the Bruins.
He began the 2018-19 season in the AHL with the Providence Bruins before making his NHL Debut on Nov. 16 at Dallas where he logged 18:53 against the Stars. Clifton logged nine games before he was sent down to the AHL and was recalled on March 14 for the remainder of the regular season and postseason.
Clifton played 19 games in the regular season where he picked up one assist, had a +5 plus/minus rating and had an average time-on-ice of 17:42. Clifton also blocked 13 shots and had 40 hits in the regular season.
He was a major player for the Bruins during their 2018-19 Stanley Cup Playoff run as the Bruins and St. Louis Blues reached Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, with the Bruins ultimately falling to the Blues, 4-1, in the game. Clifton played 18 games in the playoffs, recording two goals and three assists for five points as well as 17 blocked shots, 32 hits and an average time-on-ice of 13:17.
Clifton recorded his first goal at the NHL level in the Bruins Game 2 win of the Eastern Conference Finals over the Carolina Hurricanes after recording his first two playoff points with assists in the final two games of the Bruins series against Columbus. Clifton scored the first goal of the Stanley Cup Final for the Bruins against the Blues on May 27 and added an assist in Game 3.
Clifton logged 107 AHL games with the Providence Bruins over parts of two seasons where he had 10 goals and 30 assists for 40 points to go with a +24 plus/minus rating while anchoring the Bruins defense.
In his Quinnipiac career, Clifton played in 156 games over four seasons and was a co-captain as a senior in 2016-17. Clifton totaled 19 goals and 37 assists for 56 points and a +39 plus/minus rating. He played a key role in the Bobcats run to the 2015-16 NCAA National Championship game as he recorded career-highs with seven goals and 21 assists for 28 points.
GARTEIG SIGNS WITH FINNISH TEAM TAPPARA
Former Quinnipiac goaltender Michael Garteig '16 signed a one-year contract with Tappara of SM-Liiga, also known as the Finnish Elite League, announced by the organization back in the middle of June.
Garteig spent the majority of the 2018-19 season with the ECHL's Newfoundland Growlers where the former Bobcat won the Kelly Cup as ECHL Champions with a 4-2 series win over the Toledo Walleye.
He finished the regular season with a 23-14-3-0-3 record to go with a 2.72 GAA and .909 save percentage before stepping up his play in the playoffs to the tune of a 16-6-1 record with a 2.19 GAA and .928 save percentage in 23 games.
During the 2018-19 season, Garteig also played two games with the AHL's Toronto Marlies where he allowed just one goal in a victory on Dec. 15 before being recalled for a single game on Jan. 12.
Garteig has split time between the AHL and ECHL throughout three seasons since graduating from Quinnipiac in 2015-16, as well as spending one game as a backup goaltender with the NHL's Vancouver Canucks during the 2016-17 season.
