Three Tournaments Precede 2019 MAAC Slate
HAMDEN, Conn. — Quinnipiac volleyball will travel to three season-opening invitationals before competing in its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) campaign under new head coach Kyle Robinson, as announced by the program Friday.
The Bobcats will open the season in Baltimore at the Morgan State Invitational on Aug. 30-31. The two-day tournament includes matches against The College of Wililam & Mary, Towson, and Seton Hall.
Despite not going head-to-head with Morgan State at their own tournament, the Bobcats and Bears will meet the following week at the Knights Fall Classic, hosted in Teaneck, N.J. by Fairleigh Dickinson University. Robinson's squad will meet NJIT on Friday, Sept. 6, before competing against the host school, FDU, and Morgan State the following afternoon.
Quinnipiac's final tournament before conference play begins takes the team to Hamilton, N.Y. for Colgate's Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament on Sept. 13-14. The Bobcats open the weekend on Friday against the host Raiders and follow up that match with Saturday contests against both Rutgers and New Hampshire.
The Bobcats will open MAAC play with three road matches in seven days as the conference campaign begins in Loudonville, N.Y. against the Siena Saints on Sept. 21. The following day, Quinnipiac travels to Poughkeepsie to meet the Marist Red Foxes before returning to Connecticut for an in-state matchup at Fairfield on Sept. 28. Last year, the Bobcats defeated Fairfield in Hamden for the program's first-ever victory over their in-state rivals.
After the opening road trip, the Bobcats are slated to play three contests in five days, albeit all on their home floor inside Burt Kahn Court. The 2019 home opener features the defending MAAC Champion Iona College Gaels on Saturday, Oct. 5 and is followed a day later by a contest with Manhattan, who the Bobcats split with in 2018. Both of the matches on the team's home opening weekend begin at 1:00 p.m. The home-stand concludes with a Wednesday night tilt against Marist, the second meeting of the two squads in 2019, that starts at 7:00 p.m. in Hamden.
A quick weekend trip to the Garden State on Oct. 12-13 features matches at Rider and Saint Peter's before the Bobcats return to Hamden for another three-game homestand. The weekend of Oct. 19-20 sees Canisius and Niagara making the trip down to Connecticut, the latter of the two representing a rematch of last year's MAAC Tournament Opening Round thriller, which the Bobcats won in five sets. Just like last year's MAAC Tournament, the contest against Niagara will be followed by another meeting with Fairfield, this time at Burt Kahn Court on Oct. 19.
The final month of the regular season showcases three more home contests and two weekend road trips, the first of which sends the Bobcats down the Merritt Parkway to Manhattan and Iona on Nov. 2-3.
The final homestand of the season welcomes Saint Peter's, Rider, and Siena to Hamden for matches on Nov. 9, 10, and 13, respectively. The Bobcats picked up two wins each against Siena and Saint Peter's last season, while dropping both to Rider.
Quinnipiac wraps up the regular season with their longest trip of the year at Canisius and Niagara on Nov. 16 and 17.
The MAAC Tournament, hosted in Orlando last season, will take place on Nov. 22-24 and will be hosted by the highest seeds in the regular season standings.
