Baseball Places Program-Best Six on NEIBA All-New England Teams

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team placed six players on the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Associations (NEIBA) Division I All-New England Teams, as announced by the NEIBA on Tuesday, May 28.
Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) and Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) were both named to the NEIBA All-New England Second Team while Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut), Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts), Tyler Poulin (Randolph, New Jersey) and Andrew Workman (Pound Ridge, New York) were all named to the third team.
Quinnipiac's six selections are its most recognized players are its most in program history. The NEIBA All-New England teams are voted on by the region's head coaches.
Vulgamore earned All-New England honors for a second straight season after being named to the first team as a sophomore in 2018. So far this season, he has a .270 batting average with 18 doubles, eight home runs, 42 runs scored and 52 RBIs. He ranks second in a single-season in program history with 18 doubles and third with 52 RBIs and recorded the 100th RBI of his career with an RBI double in the MAAC Tournament.
Marrero, a first team All-MAAC selection, has been stellar this season for the Bobcats with a .314 batting average with 69 hits, 12 doubles, 10 home runs, 46 RBIs and 48 runs scored to go with 19 stolen bases. He has career-highs in nearly every offensive category while his 48 runs scored are tied for the fourth-most in a season in program history and second-most at the Division I level.
Bender, a second team All-MAAC selection, has thrived in his sophomore season for the Bobcats as he owns a .313 batting average with 60 hits, 13 doubles, 32 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He also has thrown out 10 runners stealing this season as he has career-highs in every offensive category.
Ostberg, another first team All-MAAC selection, has broken out in his sophomore year for the Bobcats to lead the team with a .332 batting average and 70 hits to go with three home runs, 34 RBIs, 37 runs scored and 18 stolen bases. Ostberg is just the sixth player in program history to record 70 hits in a season.
Poulin, a first team All-MAAC selection, has been the Bobcats' ace for the past two seasons since transferring to Quinnipiac as a junior. He is 7-2 this season with a 3.73 ERA in 14 starts where he has 80 strikeouts in 82 innings pitched. Poulin's 80 strikeouts this season rank eighth in a season in program history and third at the Division I level, and is one of just three players in program history with at least two seasons of 80-plus strikeouts. His 166 career strikeouts rank seventh all-time in Division I program history.
Workman, the MAAC Relief Pitcher of the Year, has been spectacular all season long for the Bobcats as he has tied the program record with nine saves to go with a 1.26 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 36 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched. Workman has made 26 appearances this season, and is one away from tying the program record for appearances in a season.
The Quinnipiac baseball team is in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2005 after winning the MAAC Championship on Sunday. Quinnipiac kicks off play in the Greenville Regional at No. 10 East Carolina with first pitch set for 6 p.m. Friday at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
