Quinnipiac started the game with five straight hits to take a 3-0 lead in the first five at-bats, including a two-RBI single from Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) and an RBI double from Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut).
Fairfield chipped away and took the lead before the Bobcats rebounded with four runs in the fourth and fifth innings to re-take the lead, 7-5, highlighted by a pair of RBI doubles from Anthony Cruz (Burlington, Massachusetts).
Despite the two-run lead, Fairfield scored single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to take the game, 8-7.
Cruz finished with a game-high three hits as he went 3 for 4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored. Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) and Bender each went 2 for 4 with a run and RBI while Vulgamore had two RBIs.
