Late Home Run Too Much for Bobcats Despite Outhitting Eagles
Quinnipiac scored all five of its early runs in the second inning before Florida gulf Coast tied up the game in the fifth inning with a five-run inning of its own.
The Bobcats were unphased; however, as they answered back with three runs in the top of the sixth inning to regain the lead. Quinnipiac held the lead into the eighth inning before Florida Gulf Coast hit a grand slam to take a one-run lead into the ninth inning. The Bobcats nearly answered back once again but they left the bases loaded in the top of the ninth.
Kevin Huscher (Middleboro, Massachusetts) paced the Bobcats as he went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs and lead-off hitter Dylan Lutz (Denver, Colorado) also doubled and recorded three RBIs in addition to drawing two walks
Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) went 2 for 4 to extend his hitting streak to nine games to open the season while drawing a walk and scoring two runs. Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) also had a pair of singles and runs scored, and Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) reached base three times as well as coming around to score two runs.

- The Bobcats put up their five-spot in the second inning all with two outs in the inning
- Bender reached on the Bobcats' second-straight fielder's choice after a Samuel LaChance (Dover, New Hampshire) single and Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) fielder's choice to put a runner on first
- Quinnipiac drew four consecutive walks on 19 pitches, starting with Marrero and Ostberg loading the bases before Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario) and Lutz drew two-out, bases loaded walks to take a 2-0 lead
- After a pitching change, Huscher cleared the bases with a three-RBI double to left-center field to make it 5-0 Bobcats
SIXTH INNING
- After Florida Gulf Coast tied the game, the Bobcats answered right back with three runs early in the inning.
- Bender singled through the left side on the first pitch to lead off the inning before he came around to score from first base on a double to right center from Marrero
- Ostberg followed up with an infield single to short before both runners moved into scoring position on a Maves sacrifice bunt
- Lutz followed Maves with an RBI double through the left side of the infield that scored both Ostberg and Marrero but after a Huscher walk, the Bobcats stranded runners on first and second.
- Ostberg's 2 for 4 day at the plate extended his hitting streak to nine games to open up the season with his third multi-hit game while his pair of runs scored are a season-high
- Huscher continued his hot start to the season as he tied his career-high with three RBIs in his fourth two-hit game of the season
- Huscher leads the team with a .345 batting average and is tied for the team-lead with eight RBIs, one shy of his career-high of nine from last season
- Lutz drove in a season-high three RBIs, his most in a game since driving in four at Saint Peter's in the second game of a doubleheader on March 31, 2018
- He reached base three times Saturday with a double and two walks
- Marrero also reached base three times for just the second time this season as he doubled, scored twice and had an RBI
- Marrero now has four walks this weekend and seven on the season
- Maves picked up his fifth RBI of the season and third in the last four games as the rookie continues to make an impact early on
- LaChance made his fourth start of the season and has at least one hit in all four of his starts to go with a .357 batting average
