Bobcats' Left-hander Earns First Career MAAC Weekly Honor
EDISON, N.J. – Quinnipiac baseball left-handed pitcher Chris Enns (Canton, Connecticut) has been named the MAAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, March 5.
Enns' pitcher of the week honors are the first of his career and first for the Bobcats since Thomas Jankins on April 19, 2016.
Enns made one of the best starts of his career Saturday afternoon as he took a perfect game into the sixth inning against Norfolk State and earned his first career win. He also struck out a career-high 10 batters in the game, including striking out the side in the second and seventh innings. Enns struck out five consecutive batters from the second inning to the first two batters of the third.
Enns' perfect game bid was the longest by the Bobcats since Jankins took a perfect game into the seventh inning and a no-hitter into the eighth against Iona on April 16, 2016, before he also earned MAAC Pitcher of the Week honors.
On the season, Enns is 1-2 with a 7.71 ERA in 11.2 innings pitched. He has 15 strikeouts on the season following his impressive 10-strikeout performance at Norfolk State.
The Quinnipiac baseball team returns to the field this weekend as the Bobcats open their spring break trip with a three-game series at Florida Gulf Coast from Friday through Sunday. First pitch on Friday night against the Eagles is set for 6:30 p.m. at Swanson Stadium in Fort Myers, Florida.
