Men's Lacrosse Takes Down Detroit Mercy, 12-9, for First MAAC Win of 2019
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's lacrosse earned a victory in their 2019 home and MAAC opener on Saturday afternoon, besting Detroit Mercy by the final score of 12-9 at the Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium.
Foster Cuomo and Jake Tomsik both recorded three goals to lead the way for the Bobcats, while freshman goalkeeper Nick DiMuccio made 17 more saves to help secure the victory. Quinnipiac is now 3-3 on the season, and 1-0 in MAAC action.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Quinnipiac led 8-3 at halftime, as Foster Cuomo, Mike Fletcher and Jake Tomsik all scored twice over the first 30 minutes.
- Cuomo added his third goal in the third quarter of play, then freshman Will Abbott tallied his second of the day to help the Bobcats take a 10-6 advantage in to the fourth quarter.
- Cuomo – the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year – led the way with four points in his return to the field. The senior scored once in the first quarter, once in the second and once for the third for the Bobcats.
- Tomsik continued his impressive start to the season, adding three more goals. He now has a team-high 20 goals over the first six games of the season, becoming the fastest player in program history to reach 20 goals for a single season.
- Freshman Will Abbott scored twice and added a helper, while Mike Fletcher and Tyler MacKay each chipped in with two scores of their own.
- DiMuccio now has 88 saves over six games, good for 14.6 saves per contest – which ranks No. 7 nationally.
- Cuomo now has 72 career goals, which ranks tied for No. 12 in program history.
- Total shots were even 50-50, while the Bobcats recorded 28 shots on goal.
- Quinnipiac won 15-of-25 face-offs, and picked up 22 ground balls in the victory.
- Quinnipiac is set for another home contest on Tuesday, hosting Hartford at 3:00 p.m. in non-conference action.
