QU Women's Golf Stands in Second Place after First Day of MAAC Championships

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The two-time defending MAAC Champion Quinnipiac women's golf team shot a 309 on the first day of the MAAC Championships on Friday afternoon at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course, putting the Bobcats in second place with two rounds still to play.
Albany stands in first place after the opening round with a 301 (+14), eight shots ahead of the Bobcats, while Dayton is seven shots behind Quinnipiac in third place with a 316. On the individual leaderboard, Megan Henry (+1) holds a two-shot lead for Albany, while junior Luciana Tobia-Palza paces the Bobcats with a 76 (+4), tying her for fourth place.
Freshman Queenie Lai and senior Estefania Morales are just one shot behind Tobia-Palza after each shot a 77, which places them in a tie for eighth place overall. Junior Julia Kemmling also placed in Quinnipiac's top four with a 79.
Tobia-Palza had a steady round for the Bobcats, picking up 12 pars and a birdie on 17 and not shooting anything worse than a bogey. Lai birdied the ninth to hit the turn at just +1 and near the top spot on the individual leaderboard, but shot +4 on the back nine to slip back into a tie for eighth.
Morales led the Bobcats with three birdies on the afternoon, including two in a three-hole span on 13 and 15, while Kemmling also birdied 13 and 15.
The second round of the three-day MAAC Championships will start Saturday morning as the Bobcats try to make a push toward the top of the team leaderboard on moving day.
