LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. — The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team fell into a 7-0 hole in the first half and was unable to rally all the way back as it dropped a 13-9 road decision at Siena on Wednesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Bobcats drop to 5-10 overall and 1-6 in the MAAC with one regular season game left to play at Niagara on Saturday. Siena improves to 5-10 overall and 1-5 in league play with the win.
Junior attack Allison Kuhn and sophomore attack Ashley Bobinski each had two goals and an assist to lead the offense, while senior defender Kiera Kelly, who came into the game leading the nation in caused turnovers (3.4 per game), had five more to increase her school-record total to 53 on the season.
Alexis Deaken scored the game's first five goals for Siena, though, tallying her first one just 23 seconds in and completing a hat trick by the 3:34 mark. Her fifth goal made the score 5-0 with 11:34 left in the half, and Siena's Nicole McNeely and Alexandra Rekos added to the run to give the Saints a 7-0 lead with 6:33 left in the half. Bobinski finally broke the ice at the 6:07 mark, but the score stayed 7-1 heading into the break.
McNeely's second goal gave Siena an 8-1 lead to start the second half before Kuhn and Bobinski scored to make it 8-3. The teams traded goals for a while, with the Bobcats scoring to close to within 9-4, 10-5 and 11-6, but they were unable to get closer than five until Avery Drouin scored with 3:26 left for the last goal of the game to make the final score 13-9.
Despite the loss, the Bobcats still have a chance at the final spot in the MAAC Tournament with a win over Niagara on Saturday, but they will need some help, as it would also require Iona, Manhattan and Siena to lose their remaining games.
