WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The Quinnipiac baseball team used a three-run fourth inning to tie the score, but UNC Wilmington scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the eighth to come away with a narrow 6-3 win over the Bobcats on Saturday afternoon at Brooks Field.

NOTES

UNC Wilmington took the opening game of the series yesterday 19-0, but this one was played much more evenly.
The Bobcats fell behind 3-0 early, but tied the score 3-3 in the fourth on a two-run double from junior designated hitter Liam Scafariello and a successful squeeze play from senior first baseman Ben Gibson.
Sophomore third baseman Evan Vulgamore and junior outfielder Brian Moskey started off the fourth with back-to-back singles, before coming home on Scafariello's double.
Freshman catcher Colton Bender sacrificed Scafariello to third, and then Gibson laid down a bunt to second base for a single to score Scafariello from third.
UNC Wilmington went back ahead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI groundout from Zach Canada, who had hit a two-run homer in the third to make the score 3-0.
Senior Brandon Shileikis had a solid outing in defeat, striking out eight, while allowing eight hits and three earned runs, over 7 1/3 innings of work.
Shileikis pitched into the eighth and got the first out as he made a bid for a complete game, but was pulled after two straight singles.
A bases-loaded two-out error in the bottom of the eighth allowed the Seahawks to extend their lead to 6-3 for closer Clark Cota, who worked a 1-2-3 ninth
Sophomore shortstop Dylan Lutz (pictured) was 2-for-3 for the Bobcats. .
