
UNC Wilmington Pulls Away Late to Take Series Finale from QU Baseball

WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Ryan Jeffers was 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI as the UNC Wilmington baseball team broke open a tight game late with eight runs in their final two at-bats to take a 12-3 win over Quinnipiac in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Brooks Field. Sophomore Kyle Horton, making his second start of the year, had a two-run triple and scored a run to help the Bobcats tie the score at 3-3 in the top of the fifth.

- The Bobcats were playing their final game of a 17-game Southern schedule, including eight games in nine days on its current Spring Break trip.
- UNC Wilmington starter Landen Roupp took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before it was broken up by a single from senior first baseman Ben Gibson (pictured) to put two runners on base.
- Sophomore designated hitter Kyle Horton then followed with a two-run triple to close UNC Wilmington's lead to 3-2, before coming home to tie the score at 3-3 on an RBI groundout from freshman second baseman Ian Ostberg.
- UNC Wilmington took the lead back in the bottom half of the fifth on an RBI double from Ryan Jeffers (4-fpr-4, 4 RBI).
- Mason Berne hit a two-run double in the seventh to stretch the lead to 6-3 and came around to score, and the Seahawks added five more runs in the eighth, keyed by a Jeffers two-run double, to break it wide open.
- The Bobcats finished with four hits on the day, with sophomore shortstop Dylan Lutz and senior outfielder Julius Saporito adding singles.
- Junior starter Tyler Poulin had a solid effort, striking out eight with one walk, and allowing four runs over six innings in defeat.
