
QU Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep at William & Mary, Defeats Tribe, 11-2

WILLIAMBURG, Virginia - The Quinnipiac baseball team completed a three-game sweep of William & Mary on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Tribe 11-2. The Bobcats got out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the first three innings, and did not look back after that. Tyler Poulin picked up his first win as a Bobcat.

The Quinnipiac baseball team will be back in action next Friday when they begin another three game series on the road. This time, the Bobcats will be traveling to North Carolina to take on Gardner-Webb University. First pitch for the first game is scheduled for 4 PM on March 2.
NOTES
- The scoring began in the 1st inning for Quinnipiac when junior Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) slapped a single through the right side to score sophomore Dylan Lutz (Denver, Colorado).
- In the third inning, the Bobcats would explode for four runs and give them a 5-0 lead.
- Sophomores Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachussets) and Lutz would reach base with back-to-back walks with one out.
- Sophomore Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) would plate Marrero with a single.
- Following a fielder's choice, junior Liam Scafariello (Southington, Connecticut) smacked a two-out triple to drive in a pair of runs.
- The next batter, senior Julius Saporito (Manalapan, New Jersey), would send home Scafariello with a single.
- After giving up a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, the Bobcats would get them back in the top of the following frame.
- Saporito picked up his second RBI of the afternoon after sending another single through the right side of the infield, scoring Vulgamore who reached base via leadoff walk.
- Moskey, who also reached on a walk, would score on a wild pitch after advancing to third on Saporito's single.
- Quinnipiac would score another pair of runs in the top of the next inning.
- Senior Anthony Cruz (Burlington, Massachusetts) would be hit by a pitch for the second time in the game to lead off the inning.
- He would steal second and then score when Marrero legged out a double that he sent to the left-center gap.
- Lutz was the next batter up and he drove in his classmate with a single up the middle.
- The Bobcats would add two more insurance runs in the 9th inning.
- Senior Ben Gibson (Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts), who came in for Saporito defensively after sophomore Derek Kasperzyk (Killingworth, Connecticut) was used as a pinch-runner, hit a single to drive home two more runs.
- Junior Tyler Poulin (Randolph, New Jersey) went six innings in the winning effort, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out five.
- Poulin has allowed only one earned run in each of his two starts and has a 1.80 ERA early on in the campaign.
- Combined relief efforts from sophomore Nick Paasch (Tolland, Connecticut) and freshmen Arthur Correira (Rehoboth, Massachusetts) and Joe Preciado (Ivyland, Pennsylvania) resulted in three scoreless innings to finish the game.
- The trio of underclassmen combined to allow only a pair of hits in 14 batters faced.
- Quinnipiac batted .500 (7-for-14) with runners in scoring position.
