QU Baseball, Led by Early Offense, Defeats William & Mary, 10-3

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia - The Quinnipiac baseball team has now won two games in a row after defeating William & Mary, 10-3, on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats would score nine of their ten runs in the third and fourth innings, led by a grand slam from Evan Vulgamore. Brandon Shileikis picked up the victory for Quinnipiac, his first of the year.

The Bobcats look to complete the three-game sweep against William & Mary tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1 PM.

- The Bobcats would load the bases before getting an out in the top of the third inning.
- Freshman Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachussets) would lead off the frame with a single.
- Sophomore Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) and classmate Dylan Lutz (Denver, Colorado) would reach base via hit by pitch and walk, respectively.
- Ostberg would then score on a fielder's choice, but the bases would remain loaded because of a throwing error.
- Junior Liam Scafariello (Southington, Connecticut) then drove in a pair of runs with a single to left field.
- Freshman Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) would plate another with a two-out single.
- Scafariello would then score the final run of the inning before Bender was caught stealing second base.
- In the top of the fourth, the bases would be loaded for the Bobcats again.
- Senior Ben Gibson (Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts) would get things going with a leadoff single.
- Marrero and Lutz would both reach base again (Marrero walk, Lutz bunt single) to load the bases.
- Sophomore Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) then stepped to the plate and lifted one over the left field wall for a grand slam.
- The grand slam was Vulgamore's first home run of the season and third of the year for the Bobcats.
- Quinnipiac would later hit its fourth home run of the 2018 season when Andre Marrero hit a solo shot to leadoff the 9th inning, his first homer on the campaign.
- Graduate student Brandon Shileikis (North Dighton, Massachusetts) pitched six innings, allowing only two runs on four hits. He also had seven strikeouts in the victory.
- Seniors Chris Enns (Canton, Connecticut) and Mike DellaMedaglia (Somers, New York) would combine to pitch the 7th and 8th innings. They allowed one run on two hits and three walks.
- Senior Mike Davis (Sandy Hook, Connecticut) pitched the final frame for the Bobcats. He put together a 1-2-3 inning with a pair of punch-outs.
