QU Baseball Picks Up First Victory of 2018 Against William & Mary, 6-1

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia - The Quinnipiac baseball team won their first game of the 2018 season on Friday afternoon, defeating William & Mary 6-1. Taylor Luciani went eight innings strong for the Bobcats in the victory. Dylan Lutz hit the first home run of his Bobcat career. Brian Moskey and Julius Saporito each smacked three hits.

NOTES

Senior Taylor Luciani (Berlin, Connecticut) went eight innings and allowed only one run. He struck out four batters and only gave up three hits.
Sophomore Dylan Lutz (Denver, Colorado) launched the first home run of his Quinnipiac career in the top of the 6th inning to tie the score at 1.
In the top of the seventh, freshman Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) lifted a fly ball to center field to knock in senior Ben Gibson (Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts) to give the Bobcats a 2-1 lead.
Quinnipiac would then go off for three runs in the 8th inning.
Lutz started things off with a leadoff double, and he would be driven in by a single by sophomore Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire).
Junior Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) then lined a double down the left field line to score Vulgamore.
Senior Julius Saporito (Manalapan, New Jersey) would shoot a single up the middle to plate Moskey to give the Bobcats the 5-1 advantage.
In the ninth, Ostberg would score the final run on a wild pitch after getting on base with a leadoff single and stealing second base.
Senior Wyatt Hamilton (Falmouth, Massachusetts) came in for the ninth and pitched a 1-2-3 inning.
Moskey, Saporito, and Lutz each had multi-hit games and drove in a run.
Moskey (two doubles) and Lutz (double, home run) had two extra-base hits apiece.
Ostberg and Vulgamore each had an RBI.
