QU Volleyball Falls In Five To Incarnate Word, Drops Nightcap To Charleston

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team dropped its third five-set match of the season, falling 3-2 to Incarnate Word, and also fell in three sets to the College of Charleston on Thursday on the first day of the Cougar Challenge, hosted by Washington State.

- The Bobcats dropped their third five-setter in their first five matches after also falling 3-2 to Fort Wayne and Toledo last weekend.
- Quinnipiac tied the match at 1-1 and 2-2 with dominant sets, but fell behind 7-0 to start the fifth before dropping the decisive set 15-6
- Junior outside hitter Jen Coffey (Merrimack, N.H.) led the Bobcats with a .278 hitting percentage, recording 13 kills in 36 attempts.
- Coffey has kills for Quinnipiac's final three points (and four of the last five) in its fourth set win
- Junior right side hitter Kat Miller (Collegeville, Pa.) had her fourth double-double in the first five matches, tallying 14 kills and 12 digs, leading the Bobcats in both categories.
- Sophomore Kaleigh Oates (Downington, Pa.) moved into the rotation in the middle from her usual spot on the outside and had four kills in Quinnipiac's win in the second set, breaking her previous high for an entire match (she finished with five).
- Sophomore setter Maria Pansari (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) had a season-high 27 assists.
- The Bobcats held Incarnate Word to a negative hitting percentage in the fourth set (-.105), but the Cardinals bounced back to hit .474 in the fifth (10 kills in 19 attempts with one error).
- Incarnate Word, which is located in San Antonio, was making its season debut after its scheduled tournament last weekend was canceled due to Hurricane Harvey.

COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON MATCH NOTES
- After a tough first set (25-14), Quinnipiac tied the second set 19-19, 20-20, 21-21, 22-22 and 23-23 before dropping the final two points for a 25-23 defeat. Sophomore outside hitter Natalie Alechko (Old Tappan, N.J.) had two of the tying kills in that stretch
- Charleston took control of the third and final set with a 10-0 run that turned a 2-2 tie into a 12-2 lead, and went on to a 25-11 win to finish off the sweep.
- Sophomore Lauren Miller (Collegeville, Pa.) played her first match at libero and led the Bobcats with eight digs.
- Sophomore Natalie Alechko (Old Tappan, N.J.) was the only Bobcat in double figures in kills with 10
- Freshman setter Morgan Sherwin (Coplau, Pa.) had six blocks to lead the Bobcats, while senior Elizabeth Kloos (Munster, Ind.) had five. Kloos also had five kills in 10 attempts with no errors.
