Liam Scafariello (Southington, Connecticut) connected for his team-leading 12th home run of the season while also stealing his fifth base of the season. Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut), Ben Gibson (Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts) and Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) all collected two hits while Gibson, Scafariello and Marrero drove in two runs apiece.
Milestones and Streaks
- Quinnipiac senior stand-out Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) moved closer to the Quinnipiac career hits record with a 2-for-4 day while also stealing two bases to join Bob Bruzik '83 as the only two players in program history to steal 60 bases in a career.
- Batten currently sits fifth with 224 career hits, behind all-time leader Tim Binkoski '07 (244), Ryan Rizzo '07 and Ben Farina '11 (238) and Vincent Guglietti '15 (228).
- Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, New York) also reached base for the 14th straight game for the second-longest streak of the season behind Batten's 17-game streak.
- Matthew Osieja (Wyckoff, New Jersey) made his 62nd career appearance on the mound, leaving him one appearance shy of tying the program record held by Matthew Lorenzetti '16 and Mike Spahr '05.
- Scafariello's 9th inning home run makes him just the ninth player in program history to reach 12 in a season. The last Quinnipiac players to hit 12 in a season was Pete Kummerfeldt, Randy Gress and Jeff Mainetti in 2007.
Quinnipiac pushed four runs across in its first at-bat, highlighted by a Scafariello sacrifice fly that scored Batten, followed by a RBI single by Gibson and two-run base hit by Marrero. The Bobcats gave one back in the bottom half of the inning as Niagara drew within three runs.
The Purple Eagles got to Quinnipiac starter Wyatt Hamilton (Falmouth, Massachusetts) when they pushed across four in the 2nd inning and three more in the 3rd. Niagara erupted for eight runs in the fifth and tacked on another in the sixth. Blake DeCarr (Foxboro, Massachusetts) who hurled three hitless, scoreless innings in relief.
The Bobcats are back in action when they face the University of Hartford in the first game at the newly-completed Dunkin' Donuts Park in Hartford, Connecticut on Tuesday, Apr. 11 at 7:15 PM.
