Quinnipiac's offense has now scored 46 runs in the first seven games of the season, good for 6.57 runs per contest. Julius Saporito (Manalapan, NJ) led the way for the Bobcats, going 3-for-4 with two RBI's and a run scored. Matthew Batten (Shelton, CT) chipped in with two hits, two RBI's and a run scored - giving him three multi-hit games so far this year.
The Bobcats got two runs in the top half of the first to take the early lead. Mike Palladino (Rockville Center, NY) walked on four pitches to begin the afternoon, then stole second base to get into scoring position. Batten grabbed a single to drive him in, making it 1-0 Bobcats. Later in the inning, Brian Moskey (Higganum, CT) laid down a sacrafice bunt to plate Batten, giving the visitors an early two-run advantage.
Campbell plated three runs in the bottom half of the first, but the Bobcats responded with another run to tie things 3-3 in the top half of the second. Julius Saporito (Manalapan, NJ) doubled to right field to lead off the inning, then later scored on a wild pitch to even things up.
The Camels then scored two runs in the bottom of the third and one in the fourth to make it 6-3.
The Bobcats chipped away at the lead again, grabbing another run to make it 6-4. Batten doubled to deep center field to score Liam Scafariello (Southington, CT) - who singled earlier in the inning.
Campbell then grabbed two in the fifth and two in the sixth inning to make it 10-4. Saporito found a gap in the top of the eighth inning for his second double of the day, though, and Nelson and Moskey came around to score to cut the lead to 10-6.
Campbell grabbed another run in the eighth to round out the scoring. The Bobcats had six runs on six hits in total.
Blake DeCarr (Foxboro, MA) led the way on the mount for the Bobcats, going 3.1 innings while giving up two hits, two earned runs and striking out four. Mike DellaMedaglia (Somers, NY) then got three outs, striking out two batters and giving up no earned runs. Wyatt Hamilton (Falmouth, MA) went 2.0 innings of his own, giving up five hits and two earned runs to go along with two strikeouts. Andrew Workman (Pound Ridge, NY) threw the eighth inning, giving up one earned run.
Quinnipiac is back in action next weekend, heading back to North Carolina for the Wake Forest Tournament. The Bobcats play Wake Forest on March 3 at 4 p.m., Radford on March 4 at 10 a.m., then Kent State on March 5 at 10 a.m.
