Hawkeyes Ride 21-5 Run in Final 7:06 of Play to Run Away with the 16-Point Victory
IOWA CITY, Iowa – What was a back-and-forth battle through the first three quarters turned into an Iowa runaway in the fourth stanza as the Hawkeyes outscored the Bobcats 28-13 in the final quarter to defeat the Quinnipiac women's basketball team, 83-67, on Friday evening in the first round of the Hawkeye Challenge.
A tough loss in the season opener, Quinnipiac and Iowa were locked in a great seesawing affair that saw 15 lead changes for the first 32+ minutes until the Hawkeyes ran away with the 16-point win on the backs of a 21-5 run in the final 7:06 of play. Quinnipiac (0-1) will conclude play in the Hawkeye Challenge tomorrow at 2:00 PM (CT) in the consolation game against No. 16 nationally-ranked Missouri.

- 38-36 IOWA (Halftime): Despite a combined 14 points from Fay and Udoji in the second quarter alone (27 combined points in first half), the Hawkeyes used a last-second Kathleen Doyle jumper to claim the halftime lead

- 55-54 IOWA (End 3Q): McClure netted back-to-back jumpers that put the Bobcats ahead, 51-48, but Iowa closed on a 7-3 run to own a one-point advantage heading into the deciding frame

- 69-62 IOWA (4:34, 4Q): The four-point lead quickly disappeared as Iowa began to take control of the game, riding a 14-3 run to take their largest lead since the midway point of the first quarter
- 83-67 (FINAL): Fay converted an and-one with 4:13 remaining to cut the deficit to four but Iowa was just too much down the stretch, finishing the game on a 21-5 run over the final 7:06 of play
- Fay was outstanding on the evening as she pumped in a game-high 23 points (8-13 FG, 4-6 3FG) with six rebounds, and four steals in 29 minutes for her fourth career 20-point effort
- The 23-point night was just three of Fay's career high as she notched 18 of her game-high total in the first half alone
- Udoji came through with a solid 12-point evening, nine of which were scored in the first half alone, as she went 5-for-10 from the floor while hitting 2-of-7 from three
- The combination of Fay (23) and Udoji (12) went for 35 of the Bobcats' 67 total points while the pairing combined for an impressive 27 in the first half and 75 percent of the entire Quinnipiac output
- Shewan connected on 3-of-9 of her three-point attempts to finish with nine points (all in the second half)
- Playing a team-high 30 minutes, Carly Fabbri (Stratford, Connecticut) finished with eight points, five rebounds and six assists with no turnovers
- McClure dealt with foul trouble throughout and recorded eight points in just 19 minutes as she fouled out late in the fourth quarter
