
Quinnipiac Men's Ice Hockey Ranked No. 2 In Preseason USCHO.com Division I Poll

The Quinnipiac University men's ice hockey team was ranked second in the 2016-17 USCHO.com Preseason Division I Poll, as announced by the website on Monday, Sept. 26, 2016. The Bobcats received 856 votes, including one first-place vote in the poll. The Bobcats' No. 2 ranking is its highest preseason ranking in program history.
Quinnipiac advanced to the National Championship Game for the second time in four seasons in 2016 before losing to 2016-17 USCHO.com Preseason favorite North Dakota. The Bobcats have advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the last four seasons and won the 2013 and 2016 East Regional before advancing to the NCAA Frozen Four. Last season, the Bobcats captured their third ECAC Hockey Cleary Cup Regular-Season Championship in the last four seasons (2013, 2015, 2016) and also won its first ECAC Hockey Whitelaw Cup Tournament Championship in program history.
Quinnipiac head coach Rand Pecknold was named the Spencer Penrose Naitonal Coach of the Year for the first time in program history and also received the Tim Taylor ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year award after guiding the Bobcats to a 32-4-7 overall record including a 16-1-5 record in ECAC Hockey play. The Bobcats were also the first team since Michigan in 1997 to finish the year with just four losses for the season. Since the start of the 2012-13 season, Quinnipiac has won 108 games, second only to North Dakota (109).
The Bobcats will host McGill on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 at 7 p.m. at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center. Quinnipiac will then open the season against Northeastern, ranked No. 15 in the first USCHO.com Poll, for a two-game home series on Oct. 7-8.
