POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Despite a strong performance from Sydney Robey (Glenmoore, Pennsylvania) in the circle, the No. 6 Quinnipiac softball team fell to the No. 1 Marist Red Foxes, 2-0 in the first MAAC Semifinal of the day.

The game was then called after Heimbach reached third on a pass ball.

Robey picked up the loss in the circle, but held the MAAC-leading offense to just two hits over five innings while allowing one earned run. Marist came into the game hitting a staggering .335 with eight batters hitting over .300, but their offense could not get much going against Quinnipiac's starting pitcher. She retired the first nine batters of the game until a runner reached on an error in the fourth. Before giving up a run in that inning, Robey had not allowed a score in 22.1 consecutive innings, a span that spread over three starts.
The Bobcats were held to two hits in the game, which both came in the first two innings of the contest. Sarah Heimbach (Greenwich, New York) went 1-for-2 at the plate with a hit by pitch and a frozen rope single on the first pitch of the game while Rebecca Drake (Manchester, New Jersey) recorded the other hit in a 1-for-3 performance.
In the bottom of the fourth, Marist's leadoff batter broke Robey's streak, reaching on an error by the Bobcats' infield. The runner then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch with two outs. The following batter recorded the first Red Fox hit of the day with an RBI-single just out of the reach of Maria Ascher's (Little Canada, Minnesota) outstretched glove. The run gave Marist a 1-0 lead and snapped the Bobcats' incredible 32 scoreless innings streak. The streak reached all the way back to the second game of Quinnipiac's doubleheader at Rider on Saturday, May 7. The Bobcats played four straight games without giving up a single run, including two in the MAAC Tournament.
After a scoreless frame by QU, Marist extended their cushion to 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth on a Gabrielle Kelliher opposite field home run.
The Bobcats had runners reach first base in both the sixth and seventh innings, but could not advance them into scoring position.
