QU Women's Tennis Wins Third Straight MAAC Championship with 4-3 Win Over Marist

WEST WINDSOR, New Jersey – The Quinnipiac women's tennis team won their third consecutive MAAC Championship Title Sunday afternoon as the Bobcats came from behind to defeat the Marist Red Foxes, 4-3, at the Mercer County Park Tennis Center.
The Bobcats improved to a perfect 29-0 against MAAC opponents since joining the conference for the 2013-14 season. With the victory today, the Bobcats set the Division I program record for wins in a season with 15 as they are 15-10 this season.
Overall, Quinnipiac is advancing to its ninth NCAA Tournament as it has now won nine conference championships in the Division I era and have now won at least three straight championships for the second time in program history.
Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) won the 100th match of her career, including the game-tying match in singles play to set up the victory for the Bobcats. Young won three matches in the MAAC Tournament for the Bobcats as she now has 20 wins in 2015-16. Young has won seven straight singles matches.
Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida) won the game-winning match for the Bobcats at No. 1 singles as she held on to defeat Marist's Karlene Pang. Dzulynsky has now won six straight singles matches dating back to April 8. With her clinching win at singles, Dzulynsky has also tied her career-high for wins in a season with 36, which she has accomplished all three seasons at Quinnipiac.
Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) joined Young as the only two Bobcats to win two individual matches on the day. Lohaphaisan won all four matches she played for the Bobcats to give her 44 this season to boost her season record to 44-20 with 19 wins in singles play and 25 wins in doubles.
The Bobcats took the doubles point with two big wins over the Red Foxes to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) and Lohaphaisan cruised to their second 6-0 win of the weekend as they downed Melissa Carlay and Lisa Ventimiglia. With both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles nearing the clinch, Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) and Young pulled away with the win first to beat Karlene Pang and Chloe Lant, 6-4.
Singles play also started off strong for the Bobcats as Lohaphaisan staked the Bobcats out to a 2-0 lead as she defeated Elizabeth Brozovich at No. 6 singles in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. From there, Marist took the next three points to take a 3-2 lead. Ariel Shulman defeated Lu at No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-2, just before Caroline Lozo knocked off Horton 6-3, 6-2 to tie the match. Lant put the Red Foxes ahead 3-2 at no. 3 singles as she pulled away from Rencheli 6-3, 6-4.
After that, it was Young and Dzulynsky that were the comeback heroes for the Bobcats. Young tied up the match at No. 5 singles as she dominated the third set to defeat Claire Schmitz 6-2, 5-7, 6-0. Dzulynsky had a dominant forced set before holding on in the third to defeat Pang at No. 1 singles 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.
