NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – Three Bobcats – Jessica Lee (60m hurdles), Kaleigh Roberts (1000m) and Tracy Campbell (Mile) – each picked up individual victories to highlight the final day of competition for the Quinnipiac women's indoor track and field team at the Giegengack Invitational from Coxe Cage on the campus of Yale University.
Jessica Lee (Montgomery, New Jersey) continues her torrid start to the 2015-16 campaign as she scored her second individual victory of the season and the fourth of her young career in her signature 60m hurdles event. Lee dominated the competition throughout the day as she ran 8.80 seconds in the preliminary round and followed with an impressive 8.70 seconds in the finals, besting the second place finisher by 0.24 seconds. Lee's day didn't end in the hurdles as she also took to the 60m dash and scored a runner-up finish for her sixth Top 5 finish of the current season. Her second place finish came with a new personal-best time of 7.81 seconds as she broke her previous record (8.03 seconds) by 0.22 seconds while she moved all the way up from 7th to 3rd on the all-time 60m dash list at Quinnipiac.
The first career appearance in the 1000m certainly was a memorable one for Kaleigh Roberts (Higganum, Connecticut) as she scored her first career individual victory with a dominating time of 2:54.43, besting the second place finisher by nearly five full seconds. After never competing in the 1000m at the collegiate level prior to this afternoon, Roberts' time of 2:54.43 is good enough for second place on the all-time 1000m list in program history.
Another big mover on the day was senior Tracy Campbell (Wall Township, New Jersey) who impressed with her first career individual victory, clocking in at 4:56.92 in the one mile run. Not only did Campbell set a new personal-best by more than six full seconds (prev. 5:02.98) but she also moved up the program record books all the way from 9th to 4th all-time at Quinnipiac.
The 60m dash final was full of Bobcats as Lee led the contingent with Alea Simons (Piscataway, New Jersey), Bonnie Pisciotta (Lindenhurst, New York) and Leah Pfrommer (Killingworth, Connecticut) finishing 3rd, 6th and 7th, respectively. Simons (7.94 seconds), Pisciotta (8.09) and Pfrommer (8.11) gave Quinnipiac four runners out of the eight-man 60m dash finals group.
After helping break the DMR program record on Friday, Cori Reid (Old Saybrook, Connecticut) came back and showed well in the 500m as she placed 4th overall with a time of 1:19.13 which is less than one second behind her personal-best.
The 3000m saw a couple Bobcats – Kaitlyn Hebert (Glastonbury, Connecticut) and Katey Veron (Franklin Square, New York) – place in the Top 5 as Hebert finished 3rd with a
time of 10:25.32 while Veron took 5th with a time of 10:31.49.
One meet stands between the Bobcats and the MAAC Championships as Quinnipiac will next head to Boston on Friday, Feb. 12 for the Valentine Invitational.
